10 Things They Don’t Tell You About Life and Success

This article was last updated on March 5, 2016

What separates those who see make their dreams reality and those who don’t is the willingness to do what others won’t. Everyone can dream of reaching success, but dreaming and accomplishing are two completely different things. Here are…

10 Things They Don’t Tell You About Life and Success

1. Not everyone can succeed

“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” – Elon Musk

That’s the truth guys. If everybody in this world had the same dream, only few would reach it. You have to know that you might not be able to achieve your goals, but don’t use that as an excuse to never try. It’s better to know you gave it your all and did not get it, than to regret not trying later on in life.

2. Nothing is equal and it will never be.

“Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.” – Les Brown

That’s the harsh reality we live in, some people have a head start, they come from rich families with connections and they future is secured and then there are people who are born in poverty, and if you want to change your situation in life you have to accept that fact and work your way to the top. Life is not fair and that’s what makes it fun.

2. If it was easy, everybody would do it.

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” – Vince Lombardi

Life is like a rollercoaster, it goes up then it goes down and nothing worth having comes easy. You will fail a lot, sometimes you will feel lost, but these failures are the stepping stones to success – All that matters is to learn from your failures and use that knowledge in the future. Adapt a winners’ attitude, winners always get back up and so should you.

3. It always takes longer than you want to wait

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.” -Newt Gingrich

As you all know – Rome wasn’t build in a day, and neither will you be able to build your dream life in a day. It requires time to create a business or to achieve a dream. According to Business Insider Just 1 % of entrepreneurs in the world become millionaires before the age of 40. You have to realize that it might take decades to become successful, take sports for example – the best athletes have trained since they were young – they’ve invested decades, and that’s what you have to be willing to do if you want to be successful.

4. You’ll want to quit long before you should

97% of the people who quit too soon… Are employed by the 3% that never gave up.”

As stated above achieving success is hard and it takes time. People that succeed are the ones that don’t bail out on their dreams when things get rough and I promise you they will get rough.

5. You have to end friendships and relationships if they are not beneficial to you

“Distance yourself from negative people who try to lower your motivation and decrease your ambition. Create space for positive people to come into your life. surround yourself with positive people who believe in your dreams, encourage your ideas, support your ambitions, and bring out the best in you.” – Roy Bennet

Sometimes you just have to cut ties with some people, they need to be out of your life because they are bringing you down. You need to start surrounding yourself with people that make you grow as a person, people that make you believe in your dreams. These are the people that you want to be around. Look for positive people and when you find them, keep them!

7. You have to sacrifice your social life and weekends

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Everything has a cost. I believe that you social life or ‘free time’ is much impaired in the early stages of building your dreams, however once the momentum shifts gear everything changes and there is more time to share with others, but in the beginning you must be willing to sacrifice your social life.

8. You won’t see results immediately

“The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work.” – Vince Lombardi

Most of the time you have to put in a lot of work to get any results. The beginning it’s always the hardest, many times you won’t see any results for a while, but that’s when you have to work even harder. Don’t give up, results will follow!

9. Accept the fact that you need help, and guidance.

“The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being.” – Pearl S. Buck

You won’t be able to do anything on your own, you have to understand that sometimes you will need help and guidance. I’ve never met a high-achieving person who isn’t like a sponge. You have to sign up to the school of life. Books, exhibitions, talks, short courses, surround yourself with people way cleverer than you and learn from them.

10.  Success is defined by you

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs

Success is defined by you and nobody else.  So what is your definition of success? Please share your thoughts in the comments below!
