Ways Golf Can Teach You To Live Your Best Life

3 Ways Golf Can Teach You To Live Your Best Life

I’ve been playing golf for XXX years.  Don’t stop reading!

I know golf has gotten the unfair wrap of being a boring sport that is only for old men, but would you believe me if I said golf can actually teach you more about yourself than you think.

Here are the 3 ways that golf can help you to live your best and most productive life outside of the sport.

The Top 3 Ways Golf Can Teach You To Live Your Best Life

  • Golf, Like Life, Is A Game of Strategy

“Golf a game that is played on a five-inch course – the distance between your ears.” – Bobby Jones, Former American Pro Golfer

To people who just watch the game of golf in passing, it may seem like a game of chance. They might say, that a golfer got a lucky shot if they get a hole-in-one or come in under par.

However, to those of us for whom golf is not a game but a lifestyle know better.  Golf is a game of strategy. Experienced golfers know that every shot is an extremely calculated and precise movement.

Just like in golf, you’ll often find the “do-ers” who are so successful approach life in a similar way.  They make lists, they plan their choices, they know that while you sometimes might get a stroke of luck, the only way to stay successful and rise is to plan.

  • Don’t Dwell On The Past

“The most important shot in golf is the next one.” – Ben Hogan, Former American Pro Golfer

A standard golf game plays on 18 holes.  Playing over 18 holes, there are pretty good odds you’ll have at least one bad shot or round.

But if you’re playing a good game of golf, you know there’s a chance you’ll have a bad round, you also know that a bad swing or a bad round doesn’t have to be the end of your game.  You know you have to focus on what’s next, not what’s already happened.
We all have things that have happened in our past.  It might be something we’re not proud of, something we regret, or just some terrible experience.  But you have two choices. You can dwell on it, or you can move on and look to the future and what’s next.

A good golfer and a successful person will learn from their mistakes, but quickly look forward to what’s next, instead of looking backwards and dwelling over something they can’t change.

Always look ahead.

  • You Can’t Succeed If You Don’t Follow Through

“In golf, as in life, it is the follow through that makes the difference.” – Anonymous

Any golfer will tell you, pure strength will only get you so far on the golf course.  It’s not enough to just hit the ball.  You must have the proper follow through in your swing to get the perfect shot.

Just as with your swing, you must follow through with events in your life.  Had a job interview? Make sure to stay in touch with the recruiter and send a thank you note.  Great date? Don’t just assume they’ll contact you! Follow through and tell them what a great time you had and plan another one!

Even the most talented people cannot and will not get far, if they don’t’ know how to follow through. You have to take your luck and your fate into your own hands.
