Starting your day right really can decide whether the rest of your day is one you want to remember or one you would rather forget. Everyday is a gift and you only get one chance to live and experience it so…commit to doing the work to make it count.
7 Great Ways To Start Your Day Right
1. Go to bed the night before with the right mindset:
This is so important. Your last thoughts prior to going to sleep will no only affect your slumber but they will feed your subconscious as you sleep. So many of us only hit the pillow at the point when we are totally exhausted. Try to go to bed before this so you can spend 15 or 20 minutes going over all of the positive things that happened during your day. Then, send love to your entire body and out to those you love and the community in general. Flood yourself in love. If you are lying next to someone special, tell them how much you love them and perhaps list some specific things you love about them. This is a simple but very powerful practice.
2. Set alarm with enough time wake up.
So many of us set the alarm or snooze until the very last minute when we need to rush out of bed. What a way to start the day! Allow at least 5 minutes to wake up. Press snooze but don’t use the time to sleep…use it to check in and ‘roll call the fabulous’! The first thing you should do is smile (even if it feels a little forced)! Then, instead of thinking a negative thought (which many people do), list 5 things that you are grateful for. Breathing is a good start, maybe it’s a beautiful day outside, the roof over your head? With time you will find that your gratitude list will give birth effortlessly to more things to be grateful for. Just give it a go!
3. Allow 2-3 minutes in the morning to visualize your day.
Now that you are feeling a little more grateful, take a few minutes to think about what you have coming up in your day and visualize how you want it to turn out. Big presentation at 2pm? Picture yourself presenting effortlessly with confidence and the people in the room smiling and nodding in acknowledgment as they agree with your every word. Date at 7pm? Picture and FEEL great energy between you both as you laugh with each other and give thanks for how cute he or she is! Lost on your to do list that you have to get through before your holiday to the Bahamas? Picture yourself crossing everything off your list and walking out of the office with an ‘I nailed it’ attitude.
Once you have done steps 2-3 (and it should only take 5 minute), you are ready to put your feet on the floor!
4. Welcome and acknowledge how uniquely special this day is
As you walk around your house/apartment welcome the wonderful day. This day is special and unique. You have never experienced it before and it will never come again which makes it so wonderful. Why can’t everyday be your birthday – a day filled with love and amazing memories? If the sun is shining, acknowledge it. If it is cloudy outside, see beauty in that too. By taking one minute to acknowledge everyday you will eradicate that feeling of time flying because you will take the time to give thanks for everyday.
5. Take a mind shower
We brush our teeth every morning and we shower to rid ourselves of any physical dirt (I hope) but what about cleaning ourselves emotionally? The shower is a wonderful place to do this as you wash because water is so healing in many ways and has a high vibration. As you let the soap sit on your body or the conditioner sit in your hair…take one minute to picture your mind and body being cleansed of any negative thoughts or pain. Picture it being released from your body and going down the drain then, picture a white light coming down (you can picture this in the water if it is easier to visualize) and cleansing your entire body with positive thoughts and feelings. Smile and give thanks.
6. Record some affirmations to play as you dress
Studies have proven this to be very powerful for things such as weight loss and improving relationships. Think about any areas of your life you would like to improve and record some affirmations on your phone/iPad/computer. Then simply press play when you are out of the shower and let your subconscious feed on it. Some examples may include:
- Today is going to be a magical day
- I am fit and healthy. I choose to nourish my body with healthy food.
- I choose to be productive today.
I will approach everyone today with confidence, love and care.
7. Open your door to the day with a final affirmation:
You’re smiling, you’re looking great and you are physically and emotionally clean. It’s time to start go out into the day. Before you leave the house, why not recite one more mantra that means something to you? You can event write it on the back of your door to read it out loud before you exit. An example may be:
‘I am whole and complete. I give love to myself and those around me. Today is going to be an amazing day and I am going to achieve everything I have set out to achieve with a smile on my face and love in my heart. This day is unique and I walk into it with gratitude, love and childlike anticipation. Life is wonderful.’
Commit to end your night and start your day right for 2 weeks and you will be amazed at how you eagerly become committed to the work and aware of just how powerful this practice is.
